Color Crush: Nature Inspired

The other day (on etsy's front page) I discovered this amazing Bead Encrusted Beetle and was immediately captivated by it.  I love the idea of taking something natural or nature inspired and creating something so completely unexpected.   My favorite part is how the delicate bead work so perfectly mimics how a beetle might actually be colored.  Beautiful!  And on a side note: if you ever have the chance to look through, borrow, or purchase the book An Inordinate Fondness for Beetles, do it.  I am not a big insect lover, but the photography in that book will blow you away!

A Handmade Wedding: Moss + Ivory

Hello lovelies!  I hope you all had a gorgeous weekend.  Thanks for stopping by today!

Cassandra of Coco+Kelley blog is having a wonderful wedding board contest and I couldn't help but join in the fun.  All participants were to choose one photo from a selection of Cassandra's favorite interior spaces and base our wedding boards off of our choice.
I selected this gorgeous room because of it's lovely greens and natural elements... as well as the beautiful light flooding the space.  I envisioned a chic wedding filled with handcrafted details and wonderful personal d.i.y. elements that any couple could achieve.

You can find links to the items found in my board on flickr.

Be sure to see the rest of the beautiful boards right here and leave your opinions on your favorites.  There is so much inspiration to be had!  The finalists will be selected and showcased on Coco+Kelley all this week and the winner will be announced Monday the 25th, so be sure to check in for that!  Have a beautiful day and a wonderful week everyone!

Inspired Spaces: Ink & Peat

If you've been reading Housemartin blog for any length of time then you know that Pam (the author) is not only a fabulous blogger but a talented floral designer (with impeccable taste) as well with!  Today she's unveiled a glimpse into her gorgeous brick and mortar shop in Portland, Oregon... and I would give anything to spend a day walking through, ooing and ahhing over every perfectly currated piece.

If you're in the area (3808 N. Williams Avenue — Suite 126 - Portland, OR), stop through during business hours: Tuesday-Saturday  11 - 6.  Looks like you're in for a treat!

And if you can't make it in be certain to see more online:

A Good Question

I recently received an email from Alicia - a sweet reader who is moving into a new home and wants some ideas for decorating her bedroom.  She's already purchased some beautiful cushions and would like to build a look around them.  I'll be the first to admit that I'm no interior decorator, but I love a good challenge and hope my little finds give you some ideas for decorating your own spaces.

To start with... I love the pillows that she chose, and wanted to pull out the small green elements to give the space a fresh creative feel.

For this room I would like to see some classic furniture pieces in black or white.  Using a decorative chair as a nightstand is a fun and unexpected way to keep things exciting (keep your bedside necessities arranged on a pretty tray set upon the seat).  The addition of textured white bed linens would look bright and inviting on the bed.  Layering textures and colors is a wonderful way to add drama and interest to any space, and I think that the white linens will give all the accessories the attention they deserve.

I hope this gives you some ideas.  Have fun decorating your new space Alicia!  I'm sure it will turn out beautifully!

1. Curtains: use two complimentary fabrics such as this Rhapsody in Cream Floral Stripe and this Coral Rhapsody Dot both by Windham Fabrics at Purl Soho, for a sweet preppy-boho look.
2. A one of a kind art piece such as this Branch and Yarn Wreath by The Constant Gatherer creates interest in a room and give the space a boutique-y feel.
3. Gabby Bedside Lamp at Pottery Barn.
4. Little details make a huge impact - Candle by Kobo at Burke Decor
5. Luis Upholstered Armchair from Ballard Designs - TIP: if you're on a budget try searching local thrift shops and estate sales for a chair that you like.  You can always have it reupholstered if the fabric is not to your liking.
