Etsy Finds & Faves: 01. 07. 11

Hello bloggy friends! I hope your Friday is off to a great start. I'm getting ready to make a batch of homemade cracker jacks (recipe here - but with modifications) and will have a fun project to share with you involving said treat next week (yum). I am also eagerly awaiting the birth of my brand new nephew or niece - hopefully he or she will be making their grand arrival soon (big hugs to my sister who is waiting ever so patiently while this baby plots its fashionably late entrance into the world). Have a brilliant weekend. Thanks for all your wonderful comments and encouragement this week! You all are the best! xo Ez

A Winter's Morning

A Winter's Morning and We See What We Want to See by me.

Hello and happy Friday friends! This past Wednesday I decided to break tradition (the tradition of always wanting to be warm and comfortable) and popped outside to take a few photos as the sun was beginning to light the morning sky. It was so beautiful out (albeit cold) so I ended up only taking a handful of shots before my fingertips were frozen solid. I honestly have no idea how I survived growing up in places like Montana and Minnesota as a kid — I'd positively die trying to make it through a winter there now (kudos to those of you in cold cold places...you are my heroes).

In any case...I've been thinking a lot recently about how the photos that I am most inclined to take are so often very close up. And honestly for a while I thought that maybe that meant that I was a "bad" wannabe photographer (which made me blue). But then I realized the other day (light bulb moment), that I take photos exactly how I want to see the world...tiny snippets of beauty found in the most ordinary and unexpected places (like in a clump of dead weeds or at a strip-mall). That brightened my day right up and I now feel a renewed sense of hope for my future photo taking quests — even if I do still have to wait until my fingers thaw before I can venture out again. xo Ez

Totally My Type

I love typography! I might not be schooled in the fine art of lettering or know the difference between a serif and a sans serif, but that doesn't stop me...no in deed. So when I spotted this awesome DIY Fabric Gift Wrapping by Bookhou for Poppytalk blog (my two loves combined - packaging and type) I knew I had to share. Isn't it the lovelies project?! Really just perfect for any holiday (mix up the type and ink/fabric colors for different effects - or you could even apply the same technique and make cushion covers, throw blankets, etc).

Then because more is almost always better, I found a few more type-ish products that I'm loving right now. If you've got the hankering for some free fonts, two of my favorite resources are Dafont (the font I used for the word "TYPE" on my image is Capture It) and Font Squirrel.
