Souvenir Foto School: Day 22 - L for Lemons into Lemonade

I was excited for today's Souvenir Foto School assignment because it finally gave me the chance to use my chalkboard painted prop table that I made a while ago. I have used it in other shots before, but until now, I never had chalk on hand to actually use it to its full potential. So hooray!

For some reason I find yellow very difficult to photograph. I'm not sure if that's just my issue, or something that is common, but it always seems to get really blown out and loses a lot of it's depth if you expose the rest of the scene properly. Anyhow, I think these photos turned out well enough, and now I'm going to go sip my lemonade! It's nearly 70 degrees here today!

Oh, and I also think that it's worth mentioning, that I took 176 photos for this assignment in order to end up with the two you see here. I think it can be easy to assume (at least for me it can be) that every pretty picture we see online or in magazines just pops out the of the photographer's camera without a lot of trial and error...but at least for me, that is certainly not the case. So if you're just getting into photography, or struggling to capture things exactly how you want to, just keep at it. There is nothing wrong with taking however many shots you need to get it right. You'll learn more and more each time, and eventually you'll be taking far fewer photos, but ending up with a lot more images that you are happy with straight out of the camera. I used to take about 400+ for a simple set-up like this. So maybe I'm getting there too! xo Ez

Souvenir Foto School: Day 21 - T for Thread

Hi friends! Just popping in quickly to share my completed assignment for Souvenir Foto School. Today we finally have beautiful sunny weather, but even still I struggled to capture that light in my photos. I'm not exactly sure why. If I had a bit more time on my hands I would have messed around with it until I figured it out.

Anyhow, I ended up using the double foam core board bounce trick (that I shared in this post) to try to get as much natural light as possible into the shots. Overall they really are a lot murkier than I would prefer, but I like them enough to leave them alone (okay...I didn't exactly leave them completely alone since I did brighten them a tad in photoshop).

And now I'm off to get a haircut. I've been loving my shorter cut that I got in January, and am thinking about taking it a bit shorter still. Fingers crossed that it turns out okay and I don't walk out of the salon looking like a Q-tip. xo Ez

Souvenir Foto School: Day 20 - G for Gradation of Color

My plan this whole month was to photograph something gold for my letter "G" assignment for Souvenir Foto School. But today I awoke to yet another grey and gloomy morning, so I decided instead that I would bring a little brightness into my day with some pretty paint colors. I don't know what it is about melon-hued colors that I love so much, but I really just can't seem to get enough. xo Ez

P.S. Just a quick note of thanks yet again for all of your lovely and supportive comments for my daily photo postings. I can't begin to tell you how much your kind words mean to me. Thank you for brightening my day with your kindness! xo

Souvenir Foto School: Day 19 - D for Dying Flowers

I was clearing these dying tulips off of my desk this morning when I realized how lovely they are...even in their petal-dropping last moments. So I just snapped a few quick photos for today's Souvenir Foto School assignment. I've always loved how the petals of most dying flowers will change colors as they go, often becoming nearly translucent before fading away. Beautiful! xo Ez

Souvenir Foto School: Day 17 - E for Eleven Clips

Just popping in to share my completed Souvenir Foto School assignment for the day. The grey weather here has been almost relentless (we did have one pocket of sunlight yesterday) and I think it's effecting more than just my photos. Does long-term gloomy weather do that to you too?

Anyhow, my goal with these shots was to try to make something mundane into something interesting. I'm not sure that I succeeded, but that's what the intention was anyway. Crossing my fingers for sun tomorrow...though I think they've forecasted rain. The one consolation I have, is that rain = Springtime flowers, so that will make it worth it. xo Ez
