Pinterest Picks: Extraterrestrial

Happy Monday friends! I hope your weekend was gorgeous. The weather has been ridiculously lovely here recently (Mother Nature is obviously trying make up for the horrific Summer she put us through in 2011) and I'm mid-way through a post inspired by a photo I took while out on a nature walk on Saturday (that will be for later this week). But for today I'm caught up in these almost other-worldly picks that I spotted over on Pinterest. I also discovered this haunting song by Bat for Lashes (via Enid), and I think that the rather creepy video that accompanies it fits the extraterrestrial theme quite well. If it's too odd for you (the balloons freak me out), you can always open another browser window (like Pinterest) and just listen.

See you all tomorrow. xo Ez

Friday Faves: 01. 06. 12

So I thought for this week's Friday Faves I'd share a couple things that I'm currently loving plus a little something I made for a xmas gift that I'm especially proud of (I can actually show you now that the holidays have passed). Just a closer look at the simple little things that make my day-to-day life happy:

1. I recently spotted a pin for the Nike Training Club App and had to download it right away...it's free and works for the iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch. Yesterday was my first time testing it out at the gym, and let me tell you...my muscles are so exhausted from the workout I did, that sitting here to type is almost too much for me to handle. I am SO excited! If I was going to try to dream up the perfect fitness app, I don't think I could have even come close to matching the awesomeness of this one. You can select different workouts for the results you are trying to achieve (such as toning, slimming down, etc.), and you can target specific areas of your body (abs, tush, etc.) with bonus workouts. You can also easily program the app to play your own music playlist, so if you have some killer cardio tunes that you love, you're golden! Additional features that I love are the awesome video clips of each exercise move that you can play at any time during your workout if you're not sure what in the world a Sumo Squat with Press or a Russian Twist is...and did I mention that it's FREE! I'll definitely be working this app into my regular fitness routine. Bonus...you don't even need to own a stitch of equipment for a bunch of the exercises, so you never even need to leave your home to get on top of your New Years resolution!

2. Speaking of working out...last week while in the middle of an arc trainer session I started dreaming of a sandwich idea and of course had to try it out as soon as I got home: Peanut Butter & Honey Apple Toast. All you do is toast your favorite bread (mine is Udi's gluten free variety), spread on 1/2 to a whole tablespoon of peanut butter and then drizzle it with organic honey. Then just top it all off with wafer-thin slices of a crisp apple, and you're done. The heat from the toast starts to melt the honey and peanut butter together into a gloriously delicious mess that is just too, too good! I've had it every other day since (served with a nice glass of cold milk) and am more than little bit hooked. I have no idea how terrible it is for me, but I'm sure I'll phase out of my obsession as soon as I realize that my skinny jeans don't button any more.

3. And lastly, I thought I'd share a couple photos of the little bear that I made for my friend's daughter this Christmas. I had so much fun dreaming her and her little outfits up.

I only wish I had more patience for sewing, because if stitching the pieces together was a exciting as coming up with the design ideas, I would totally consider making more. For now, this little bear is a one-of...and I'm pretty happy with how she turned out.

Psst...insider tidbit. If you've been reading my blog since the beginning than you know that I used to make and sell handmade softies...and that's actually how I came to choose 'Creature Comforts' as the name for my blog: creature = stuffed animals + comforts = cozy and cuddly. Isn't that funny. I've always been so glad that I chose a name that worked for more than just one thing! Phew!

Have a wonderful weekend. I hope to see you here next week. xo Ez

January 2012 Calendar Download

Hi guys! As promised, here is the free downloadable January 2012 calendar page that I made available last week through my newsletter (your download will begin as soon as you click the image). Once again I've designed the calendar to be repurposed as a postcard or mini art print once the month is over. I hope you'll enjoy each month's design, and have fun with them!

Just a quick note: it seems that there was a little bit of confusion regarding the difference between subscribing to my blog feed by email and signing up for the newsletter. They are two separate things, and the calendar is sent through the newsletter and not the feed. If you'd like to subscribe to receive it on or before the first of each month, the newsletter subscription form is found in the lower right-hand column. I will only be sending out the once monthly calendar download, so you don't need to worry about me flooding your inbox with a bunch of random things.

And of course if you prefer not to receive the newsletter, but still want to be able to download the new calendar page each month, I will be making it available here on Creature Comforts approximately one week after the 1st of the month. Click on the image above to start your download. xo Ez

Psst...if you want to check out last year's calendar (the illustrations still make great cards or art prints, even if 2011 is over), you can find it right here.

This beautiful photograph by Shannon Peck makes me dream of Summer days past, spent blackberry picking with my family...our skin freckled by the sun and our fingertips stained blue from the bounty we gathered. Sigh!
