Friday Faves: 01. 06. 12
So I thought for this week's Friday Faves I'd share a couple things that I'm currently loving plus a little something I made for a xmas gift that I'm especially proud of (I can actually show you now that the holidays have passed). Just a closer look at the simple little things that make my day-to-day life happy:
1. I recently spotted a pin for the Nike Training Club App and had to download it right away...it's free and works for the iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch. Yesterday was my first time testing it out at the gym, and let me tell you...my muscles are so exhausted from the workout I did, that sitting here to type is almost too much for me to handle. I am SO excited! If I was going to try to dream up the perfect fitness app, I don't think I could have even come close to matching the awesomeness of this one. You can select different workouts for the results you are trying to achieve (such as toning, slimming down, etc.), and you can target specific areas of your body (abs, tush, etc.) with bonus workouts. You can also easily program the app to play your own music playlist, so if you have some killer cardio tunes that you love, you're golden! Additional features that I love are the awesome video clips of each exercise move that you can play at any time during your workout if you're not sure what in the world a Sumo Squat with Press or a Russian Twist is...and did I mention that it's FREE! I'll definitely be working this app into my regular fitness routine. Bonus...you don't even need to own a stitch of equipment for a bunch of the exercises, so you never even need to leave your home to get on top of your New Years resolution!
2. Speaking of working out...last week while in the middle of an arc trainer session I started dreaming of a sandwich idea and of course had to try it out as soon as I got home: Peanut Butter & Honey Apple Toast. All you do is toast your favorite bread (mine is Udi's gluten free variety), spread on 1/2 to a whole tablespoon of peanut butter and then drizzle it with organic honey. Then just top it all off with wafer-thin slices of a crisp apple, and you're done. The heat from the toast starts to melt the honey and peanut butter together into a gloriously delicious mess that is just too, too good! I've had it every other day since (served with a nice glass of cold milk) and am more than little bit hooked. I have no idea how terrible it is for me, but I'm sure I'll phase out of my obsession as soon as I realize that my skinny jeans don't button any more.
3. And lastly, I thought I'd share a couple photos of the little bear that I made for my friend's daughter this Christmas. I had so much fun dreaming her and her little outfits up.
I only wish I had more patience for sewing, because if stitching the pieces together was a exciting as coming up with the design ideas, I would totally consider making more. For now, this little bear is a one-of...and I'm pretty happy with how she turned out.
Psst...insider tidbit. If you've been reading my blog since the beginning than you know that I used to make and sell handmade softies...and that's actually how I came to choose 'Creature Comforts' as the name for my blog: creature = stuffed animals + comforts = cozy and cuddly. Isn't that funny. I've always been so glad that I chose a name that worked for more than just one thing! Phew!
Have a wonderful weekend. I hope to see you here next week. xo Ez

that bear is darling and i love the backstory on creature comforts. i recently changed blogs (it was a long time coming). sadly my name did not work for all avenues. ha! also, downloading that app asap!
That sandwich sounds delicious... I'm going to try it for breakfast tomorrow... and surely all that Russian twisting cancels out the calories?!
I bet for a slightly healthier sandwich, you could use Greek yogurt instead of peanut butter. (I love it as a spread.) But I also think a Nutella version would be pretty kick-ass.
I totally am downloading that app! And have to try you honey apple pb toast..yum!

Oh wow, I love the bear and its little skinny jeans!! Too adorable!
I am so addicted to peanut butter and honey sandwiches. This one looks amazing and sounds delicious with the thinly sliced apples. I will definitely be giving this a try over weekend. thanks for sharing.
Oh my, that little bear is so dear. I love her outfits too - skinny jeans yes!
Thanks for sharing. The bear is adorable! And I'm going to make that delightful little sandwich and do some ab workouts to work it off later : )
That bear is adorable.. I love the clothes (they look like things I would wear!!)
Did you use a pattern/ tutorial for the bear? Have been looking for one for ages.
Hi guys! Thank you all so much for your comments and your sweet words about my little bear softie. I made my own patterns the super simple way but just drawing the design (such as a sketch of a bear) and then I just sectioned it off and added seam allowance around the outside. I did the same thing for the clothing (though it was a bit more challenging than the bear was). I'm certainly not a pattern maker by any means, but my classes in school for fashion design years ago definitely help. :-D
