D.I.Y Paper Bird Cage Party Decor

The lovely and incredibly talented Laurie Cinotto created this adorable D.I.Y. Paper Bird Cage Project for Janie at The Bride's Cafe and they agreed to let me share it with you all here on Creature Comforts too (yay - thanks ladies)!

What I find so great about projects like this is how customizable they are.  By simply choosing papers in colors and patterns that reflect your taste best, you can make a collection of unique pieces to bedeck your next party with.  These bird cages would look great clustered on a tabletop (arranged at different heights) or hanging from branches or ribbons.  Perhaps at the end of the fete you might even like to send your guests home with one to remember the event by.

Visit The Bride's Cafe for full tutorial details.

Oooh!
I'm in my first working day at the office after holiday, I should be focusing hard on work after 2 weeks, but I wish oh so much I was at home doing this!!! :)
I need to find a suitable occasion for this... I have a dinner with friends at my place next sunday: hanging them is the best, but think these would look good also as PLACE HOLDERS, maybe with the name on the birds... Or just table decor... What do you think?
Thanks for sharing and congrats to the creator!
Ciao!

O my these are beautiful!!! I can't think of something better to make on a snowy day. A little bit of spring in the house!

Adorable! I think I'll try making these to decorate my studio.

Thanks for all your great comments everyone! I love the idea of using these as room decor too! Adding some glitter for a glam effect would also be great! Keep your ideas coming!

i love these but what I really would like to know is where did you get those sweet blue leaf branches?

January 7, 2010 | Unregistered Commentermermanda

Thanks for the kind words, folks! I hope you all give it a try. They're easy to make and most likely you'll have all the supplies on hand.

Mermanda, I made the branches (actually they're part of a whole tree). They are constructed with florist corsage leaves, wire, and floral tape. Here's a pic of the whole tree...

This is unconscionable and dishonest. The NYTimes is encouraging teachers, presumably K-12 to tell young people that those ignorant tea-bagging whack jobs represent a social movement? I’ll tell you who they remind me of, the racist mobs that threw bricks at Dr. King, that’s who. And Ayn Rand is not literature.
