Hello lovelies. Today's Chic for Cheap outfit was requested by reader/artist Twozdai (pronounced Tuesday) who will soon be showing her recent collection at an art opening. Here's how she describes her challenge: "I'm always at a loss as to what to wear to my own art openings. I have an upcoming show for this series of work. It will be shown at a wine bar, and the opening is part of the neighborhood art walk. Any advise you have would be greatly appreciated!"
I thought it would be fun to take inspiration from Twozdai's own art for this look. I honestly couldn't decide between the two dresses, so I included them both. Flats or some cute wedges seem like a must for any event where you'll be spending hours walking around (unless you're some sort of heel-wearing goddess, in which case I'm jealous) and I like the idea of a feminine jean jacket and funky chain necklace to keep things artsy and not too precious. I hope you have a wonderful art opening Twozdai! xo Ez

Hello and happy Friday everyone! I have a mountain of tasks to accomplish this weekend so I'm heading off to work on those now. It won't be all work though...If I'm lucky I just might be getting together with my 8 month old nephew: Solomon, sister and brother-in-law who are here visiting from out-of-state. My nephew truly is the cutest baby (and I'm not much of a baby person). Hopefully I'll be able to take some photos to share with you all next week.
Have a wonderful and relaxing weekend. xo Ez
A few pretty picks for your Friday/weekend enjoyment:
Hello lovely ones! This week's Chic for Cheap challenge was requested by reader Jessica who currently owns the Wanderlust Sumatra Shirtdress in Robin's Egg from Madewell, but is struggling to know how to accessorize it for multiple uses. I loved this challenge as I think it's the sort of dilemma we've all run into when staring into the abyss of our closets.
I decided that it would be fun to enlist the help of my twitter friends this time around and asked: "What is one must-have accessory when wearing a shirtdress?" The answers twittered back were great and are listed here from most noted to least:
Contributing twitterers were: andreajoyce, SweetBeaker, DesignBunnie, CatherineStern, MimiandLu, withonlytwo, cutedisaster, CaldwellSteph, JenipherLyn, hueyeats, aurorasalesrept, shortsweetblog, stylemakertv, waterstonej, JuneShinDesigns, filmoreclark, nictatt, clever_betty, profsandwich, hisforhome, color_me_crafty, ThatVintage, InviteArtist, HeidiBraids, InklingPaper, CraftyFanny, ShirleyItsMe, PaperCakes and CovetChicago. Thanks guys!
I hope this will give you some fun ideas to go off of Jessica! xo Ez

Hello lovelies! It's Chic for Cheap Tuesday again. This week's outfit was requested by Karen, a young business professional who is in need of a stylish business casual look for an upcoming work event. Here's the challenge in her own words:
"At the end of June, I will be attending a national conference for University Housing Officers in Austin, Texas. The conference attire is "business casual," but I still look for opportunities to show that women can be both professional and fashion forward at the same time. Along with my best friend and Colleague I will be presenting a program session at the conference, which is pretty rare for an entry-level professional. I want to make a good impression on my colleagues, but still be age appropriate (25 on Monday!) Another factor to consider is that the conference will take place in the heat and humidity of Texas Summer so comfort in that kind of weather is a necessity."
Invest in work wear staples that you can mix and match over and over again:I had two concepts for this challenge...both that involve a small investment into classic pieces that can be worn over and over again. You just can't go wrong with a silk top, pencil skirt, and little black dress. My other thought was that many of us already own similar staples, so with a quick shopping trip for shoes and accessories your outfit will be completed. Chic, cheap and low stress!
Invest in a little black dress that you can gussy up or down depending upon the occasion:
If you focus on having strong basics, then you can have fun playing around with your accessories until you find a look that represents your style best. I hope your conference will be a great success Karen! xo Ez
