Chic for Cheap: One Shirtdress Two Ways
Hello lovely ones! This week's Chic for Cheap challenge was requested by reader Jessica who currently owns the Wanderlust Sumatra Shirtdress in Robin's Egg from Madewell, but is struggling to know how to accessorize it for multiple uses. I loved this challenge as I think it's the sort of dilemma we've all run into when staring into the abyss of our closets.
I decided that it would be fun to enlist the help of my twitter friends this time around and asked: "What is one must-have accessory when wearing a shirtdress?" The answers twittered back were great and are listed here from most noted to least:
- Belt
- Wide Belt
- Skinny Belt
- Tights / Leggings
- Necklace or Bracelet
- Boots
- Cropped Jacket
- Oversized Sunglasses
- Scarf
- Headband
- Handbag

Has anyone tried on this shirtdress before? I absolutely love it (and all other shirt dresses), but shirtdresses are generally scandalously short (or sometimes awkwardly long). There's no good in between. f it helps, I'm about a size 4 and 5'7", but my legs are longer than my torso which can sometimes make things look quite short.
Thanks for listing me, Ez! Love these looks!
Love this! Thanks :)
Gah! I love those peep toe heels! And the price?! Perfect!
Love that dress! So chic.
hi everyone!
my name is elizabeth, and i am the designer and owner of WANDERLUST, and i did that collection for madewell. i have my own collection--check it out--www.wanderlustcambodia.com--as well as 3 stores in cambodia, where i live now (i am american). i am so HAPPY to read all these comments and see all these cute looks styled with my dress. and phoebe, this dress will look great on you--trust me, i've tried it on a ZILLION times! it looks so great on it's own (and it's not scandalously short!) but also with jean cut offs, a bathing suit, leggings, jeans--i even wear mine over a long skirt. i love it, and i know you will, too.
thank you so much everyone for brightening my day! i am so happy!

Thanks EZ! These ideas are perfect. I was not thinking black but your right, looks great.
I have those shoes (the flats from Target) and LOVE them. Super comfy--I walked all over Manhattan in them and no blisters.
My sister will surely love your website... keep it up!
That's a great combination! I'd totally wear it (but with a bottom like shorts or a bandage skirt)
