Making a Perfect Sandwich: Attempt No.2

I am not a sandwich maker.  Marichelle (delightfully pregnant and a genius in the kitchen) on the other hand is a brilliant one.  Even she won't argue with me about that.  Looking for a remedy for her ban on cold-cuts during pregnancy she came up with an A-MAZE-ING vegetarian taste sensation a few weeks ago which I immediately set my mind to replicating.

But I soon discovered that sandwich perfection is not so easily attained.  Queue fateful attempt No.1...

My first mistake was failing to take into account the precise ingredients that Marichelle had used to orchestrate her original masterpiece.  In place of balsamic vinegar I used rice vinegar, buttermilk bread for whole grain, anemic lettuce for organic baby greens...etc.  I think you are perhaps beginning to get the picture.  I mixed.  I chopped.  I sandwiched.  When at last it was done I had to admit that my finished sandwich didn't look or smell like I thought it should.  Hmmm.  Regardless I bravely bit into it with gusto.  Oh-my-lands!  What I got in my mouth was the most vile tasting pseudo food substance I'd ever eaten.  Still unwilling to admit my utter failure I took another small nibble (just to see if I'd been wrong the first time around) and immediately had to rush to the trash to spit it out before something worse happened.  Not good people...not good.

So...now this brings me to Attempt No.2 (seen above).  Wherein I managed to cajole Marichelle into spilling her secret recipe with me (muwahaha).  Then actually forced her to go to the store with me to supervise my purchasing of the correct ingredients (all in the name of a good sandwich).  Upon returning home later that day I followed her instructions to the letter and... I DID IT!  Not only was it an edible sandwich...but a sandwich so good that I've been making one nearly every day since then.

Since Marichelle doesn't want anyone else to suffer the horrors of vomitus sandwich attempts like I had to, she has oh-so kindly shared her delcious recipe today over on her blog Lifefix!  Hurray!  Sandwiches for everyone.  xo Ez

Fancy This: Joline Jolink - Spring 2010

I'm pretty sure that if they were within my budget I could comfortably live in the Spring 2010 collection from Joline Jolink for the rest of my life.  I love the simple palette they've used and their perfectly cut pieces.  I'm swooning the hardest over that short-sleeved Cardi (on the far right).  Be still my heart.  See more right here. xo Ez

A Photo's Worth: The Festival of Colors

{photograph by Rupak De Chowdhuri/Reuters}

Saturday night I came across this exquisite photograph of young children in India celebrating Spring's arrival in a yearly cultural festival called Holi (Festival of Colors).  I can't describe the feeling that came over me when it opened on my screen.  Something like a mix between having the air sucked out of my lungs (but not painful) and a cool calming breeze on a sweltering day.  It caused me to aske myself, "When was the last time we celebrated the changing seasons (or any other seemingly ordinary event) with such unadulterated joy?"  What a beautiful reminder this image is for me...to work towards breathing life in more fully and seeing the world with brighter eyes.  xo Ez
