The HP / Project Runway Challenge: Week 4
This past week on Project Runway the designers were tasked to design a workday-to-evening look for Nina Garcia. I wasn't sure what we'd be seeing walk down the runway since it seemed that just about every color, pattern, silhouette concept from the designers was met with a brisk "no" by Nina. After all the "nos" we did find out that Nina likes pants, and....I think that was it. I was stumped right along with the project runway designers. But oh how fun it was to watch the psychological mind game that this challenge became. In the end I adored the winning designers look. If you've seen the episode, were you happy with the winner too (try not to give any spoilers away)?
So as you know I have been participating in a fun challenge by HP to use their TouchSmart 610 computer to interpret each week's challenge. I really had a hard time getting started this time since I felt that the winning design pretty much encapsulated the perfect look for Nina. But of course this is called a "challenge" for a reason, so I stopped second-guessing myself and got to work. In the end I deciding to make a top and skirt (two piece offer more mileage) for Nina. The skirt features sculptural pockets and is accented with a softly draped top with hand-beaded applique and convertible sleeves that drape open to reveal beaded spaghetti straps for a more evening appropriate look (they fasten up with a hidden closure for daytime wear). And I'd finish the look off with a pair of classic pumps like these by Kate Spade. It's a good thing that Nina isn't really judging me, because I'm not sure that I would fare all that well. But regardless, I'm personally pretty happy with the look I came up with and kind of wish that it was in my closet right now.
I hope you like my interpretation this week. I'll have another challenge to share with you next Monday following this week's show. If you haven't been watching Project Runway you can see full episodes online for free, right here. And if you missed the first three posts I did in this series, you can pop on over and see those right here. xo Ez

Full disclosure...because that's just how I roll. HP provided me with a TouchSmart 610 computer for use with these weekly challenges. All content was left solely up to me. I have not been financially compensated for my opinions of this product or the Project Runway show.

I love it!!! I would so wear this.
Ooh. I really like your design! VERY Nina-esque. I was happy with 2 out of 3 of the top 3 designs. I thought the solid color [blank] that so-and-so designed was too Kardashian for Nina. I did like the [blank] that so-and-so designed, and I felt that she used the copycat fabric much better than so-and-so who also selected it (I tried REALLY hard not to give any spoilers. I hope I didn't do such a good job of it that you don't understand what I mean).
Thanks Kelly!
April, you are adorable! I love your non-spoiler coverage of the show. And totally agree with you. ;-)

Wow! It's lovely, and I wish it were hanging in my closet, too. If you could make it come to life, you totally would have won that challenge!
i LOVE your design- NIna would have loved it too.
this must be fun- you're the contestant who never gets sent home! "Ez, congratulations, you're in"
Love your design! I like how you incorporated pattern & texture into your sketch too.
I'd want it in my closet, but without the wide pockets (I already have a little too much hip action at the moment..LOL)
Absolutely love your illustration and the design, it really looks like a piece I'd love to own!
Thank you so much everyone! You had me blushing all week from your kind compliments. xo Ez
I've followed your specific challenge for 6 weeks and now I turned back to this piece merrily to say it's my favorite. I'm a reader from Taiwan and not permitted to open the link of each episode for this season. Anyway I can wait until this series released in my country. Now I can purely admire each piece you creat and it's still a lot of fun! I like the volume and shape you give to each single sketch. The colors just fit in with each little adornment no matter a stripe of pattern or the eye-catching accessories. Nice job and I'm looking forward to the coming weeks! !
