One Good Thing: Tiny Blueberry Star Pies in Jars

Have you ever tried baking mini pies inside glass canning jars? I haven't, but every time I see another version pop up online I make a mental note that I really, really I have to try it out a.s.a.p. These sweet little Tiny Blueberry Star Pies in Jars (via Babble / The Family Kitchen, posted by BrooklynSupper) might just be the final prompting that I need to at last tackle this baking project. Wouldn't they be so perfect for a 4th of July or other celebratory picnic? They'd also make really charming favors at a casual wedding reception or backyard soiree. I love that all you need to do is screw the lid on and presto-chango you have a portable mini pie! Yum!

If you're looking for small canning jars like the ones used in this recipe, you might like these that I found: Package of 12, 4oz. Canning Jars

I've never seen these before, but they are so beautiful! - in a food kind of way! They have definitely been added to my to do list.

I've been seeing a lot of desserts in jars and I'm really into it. I just need to get some jars :)

These are adorable. I wonder how it works out with the baking part. Hmmm, I need to research!

Thanks for all the inspirations.

they are super cute. my niece made some and they were not very tasty. (sorry, niece!) she is practicing to make them for her wedding, so she has time to get the recipe just right. i think they might be better with just crust on top--they are so tiny that bottom and top crust is a bit too much crust. love how they look though!

i'm eager to hear if you find a recipe you love, and i will pass it on to her.

I'd seen these but never quite figured out baking time so I never tried it... thanks for posting the recipe!!! I think they'd make great little gifts.

Maybe I can use a jar that's not too deep. Great idea with these mini pies :)

I love making (and eating) pies in a jar. I use my mom's apple pie recipe and it works beautifully. I usually get about 8 jar pies with one filling recipe and a double recipe for the crust. Plus you don't have to roll out all of the crust, you just smoosh in into the jar. I bake them for the same amount of time that I bake a full sized pie (1 hour). The best part about these little babies is I can make a bunch of them and put them in the freezer so when I want pie I don't have to make a whole pie from scratch, I just pull one out of the freezer and throw it in the oven. I've yet to have a frozen pie jar break in the oven. You should totally try it!
