5 Minute DIY: Chalkboard Frames

Today's DIY is so fast and easy you could probably do it with your eyes closed (note: please do not do this project with your eyes closed). Since I finally got my Flip camera working again I decided to show you the process for both the DIY Chalkboard Frames and DIY Decorated Chalkboards, on film. I've also included a short written tutorial below (sans images) for those of you who prefer.

I hope you will love this project and have loads of fun with it. Just beware that it is so easy that you might find yourself running to the craft store multiple times just so you can keep making more. Afterall these frames are great for decorating your home, using as party decor, props at a wedding, gift giving, and more. Don't say I didn't warn you. xo Ez

DIY Chalkboard Frame:

  1. Purchase mini chalkboard(s) at your local craft store in whatever sizes you'd like (I've also included an online shop link at the bottom of this post for those of you who are interested). They run between 2-5 dollars a piece. Also pick up some 2.75" bulldog clips (these can also be found in the art supply section of your craft store or in office supply stores (I've included an online shopping link for these below as well).
  2. Take your chalkboard (it can be used either horizontally or vertically) and clip your bulldog clip to the top edge. That's it!
  3. Attach desired photos, artwork, notes, etc. beneath your clip and hang on a nail using the holes on your bulldog clip.
  4. If you'd like more decorative frame, follow the next tutorial below for the simple how-to.

Just writing to say that I thought that your speaking voice in the videos was so clear, and that - for whatever it's worth - I was very impressed by the video presentations! Your site continues to be an inspiration. Wishing you all the very best :)

What a fun project! This is a great idea for a party - use the chalkboard as name cards that can later be used as party favors! Might make some for my next dinner party. :)

One question... do those pens wipe off or are they permanent on the chalkboard?

June 1, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterWendy

Oh good question Wendy! I should have mentioned that. These pens are permanent and will not wipe off. They do sell chalk pens that wipe off, but I haven't tried those. Might be a nice non-permanent option to try though. :-)

this idea is simply genious! I'm seriously headed to the craft store today to pick up some of these cute little chalkboards...I think I will hang them on a wall in my loft, along with some clipboards, as an inexpensive way to showcase my kids ever-changing array of artwork!
