DIY: Salt Water Taffy from Vanilla & Lace
I looove salt water taffy (peppermint in my favorite) and I've always wanted to try my hand at making it myself. But after one look (years ago) through the window of a seaside candy shop at its frantically twirling taffy-puller, I tucked the thought away into my wishful thinking file...until now!
After spotting the gorgeous mound of minty goodness (above) via Kalie on pinterest, I just had to follow the link to see what I would find. And there on the lovely Vanilla & Lace blog visions of handmade salt water taffy began, once again, to dance in my head. Yes, it still looks like a lot of work, but man-oh-man do the results ever look worth it!
I'm thinking this would be a fun project to work on with a group of older kids (my daughter and sister's age). They can do all the pulling, have fun choosing which color to dye it (I'm guessing they'd pick something from our pack of neon food coloring), and then we can all enjoy the tasty taffy at the end. Yummers! xo Ez

Oh my gosh, what a great find! :) Thanks for blogging this.
I've been meaning to make this forever! I love Abi's blog and her recipes always look so, so good. My mom would love this so much. Wouldn't it be lovely all wrapped up in a pretty basket for a mother's day gift?
Great Idea! I realy love the colour from the candies. I will try to make them too.
Thanks for sharing!
omg that looks so good.....I used to load up on salt water taffy during our summer trips to the coast---sweet memories:)
I may have to try this!
Neat! I've always wanted to try this. Mint is my favorite! I'm also pretty stoked to discover her blog. Lots of great recipes.
i'm not a huge fan of salt water taffy, but that color is so beautiful - it's eye candy to me :-)
Heaven help me! That taffy not only looks yummy but its GORGEOUS! It would have been perfect at the tea party I threw last weekend. Bugger.
What a lovely blog!

I haven't had taffy in forever. Reminds me of my favorite beach back home in Oregon, Canon Beach. They had the cutest old fashioned candy shop, with homemade taffy. Hope your taffy project goes well!

Oh, yum! You could have an old-fashioned taffy pull... it makes me think of something the children in "Life With Father" or "Meet Me in St. Louis" would have done!
Making taffy is labor intensive but definitely lots of fun. I remember when I was in college my brother and I making some for our friends for Christmas. It was lots of fun bonding time and something my friends asked for every year! I have made it since I have been married, but it is definitely something you need to do with another person. Your hands will thank you.
ooooo! Thank you for sharing! I have many fond memories of salt water taffy! I learned how to make it at girl scout camp one summer (have since forgotten)... sticky ooey gooey mess o fun! I will teach my daughter now!
