In My Imaginary Closet (Part II)

Hello sweets! My actual closet has been filled for years with far to many "throw-away" items (pieces that don't even hold up well enough to donate the following season). For this coming year (and on) I've decided that it's time to start purchasing well-made clothing that I can wear for years to come (time to hone my personal style too). It sounds simple enough, but on the sort of itty-bitty budget I have, owning quality pieces (mind you I'm not even talking about the über labels here) will take time and saving. I suppose that things worth having are worth waiting and working for, right?!

Fortunately I got a jump-start on my mission with the help of a little Christmas money, and was able to get a few of the things I've been really needing/wanting for a bit (I've put a little * following the picks I now have) - the rest is good old inspiration. What's in your imaginary closet today?

  • A new haircut and color. This photo of model Freja Beha Erichsen (found on pinterest) was my haircut inspiration. I couldn't find the photographer info for this shot, so please share if you know. *
  • I've also just discovered that I can finally wear lip color now that my hair is a bit darker. Woohoo. Black Honey Almost Lipstick from Clinique apparently looks good on everyone. *
  • Cashmere Sweater from Uniqlo (found via pinterest and A Cup of Jo). Oh how I love it (but I don't think it's still available - sadness)!
  • Solid Chinos from Scotch & Soda - love the cut of these (be sure to check out the rest of their line too).
  • This might be the ideal bag for me - casual but luxe at the same time.
  • Gold Bar Bracelet - A little something shiny on the wrist never hurt anyone.
  • I finally found my perfect wallet. It is everything I wanted and more (and the price was perfect). *
  • Black Canvas Tretorn Shoes *

This looks like the most comfortable and cute outfit ever. I love the cut of that sweater! I will now be on a search for something similar. Love your blog, been following a little while now!

Love the black and white and gold palette! I do love a touch of gold jewelry and, I have to say, my favorite purchase this year was a pair of gold pyramid stud earrings from my own store. They go with everything! I totally agree that it's worth it to wait and save up for quality items.

I couldn't agree more! I've been thinking I should upgrade my wardrobe to substantial pieces this year, too!

I have that lipstick, too. It's not too much, not too little.
Love that haircut. I wish I could wear bangs like that, but it just doesn't work on me.

love them all! i've come to realize that i should be spending my money on quality "everyday clothes" rather than on special occasion clothes i wear maybe twice a year ... seeing your picks definitely helps me focus. good luck with the closet upgrade and happy new year!

You are right about that lipstick! I look horrible in all of them but my sister got me the Black Honey for Christmas and I just love it. I can put it on normally and it's still 'barely there.' Finally!

Such a nice understated style-and I need me one of those bracelets! Also that hair is amazing!

It's tempting to buy cheaper clothes cause you can buy so many more but it's definitely more satisfying to know you've bought something of quality. The cashmere sweater is so lovely..in fact all of your picks are. Like the hair too!

Happy new year,

I don't think I've ever seen a grouping like this where I've liked every element. *love*

I love Clinique moisturising lip gloss too! They stay put for hours and are good for my lips!

I totally agree with your approach. I'm trying to do the same. Best of luck for a stylish new year!

I totally hear you on the 'throw away' wardrobe-every winter I wonder what I have for shirts? And then I remember that all my shirts are stretched out. I like your thinking, and your taste! Thanks for sharing the good finds.

I like the minimalist quality of all your picks and I really love that bag, you have such awesome taste!

December 30, 2010 | Unregistered CommenterFelicity

I'll take it all please! I am in the same boat as you - trying to get rid of cheapo clothes that seem to disintegrate with each washing, and want to invest in higher quality pieces. If only I had the budget! I wish I could have a magical "75% off everything I need" pass. Would love to see a pic of your new 'do too...I just got bangs and love them!

Black Honey has been a staple in my makeup case for a very long time. I can try as many other lip colors out there but always come back to it.

wow.....love that BAG! and the pant..and the shoes..and the wallet! love your style.

December 30, 2010 | Unregistered Commentersunny
