Reader Question: What Shoes Do I Wear With This Dress?

Today I wanted to try my hand at answering a question sent in by reader Kim.  I'm certainly not an expert so I'd love to hear all of your ideas too.  Let's see if we can help Kim with her dilemma.  Here's her email query: "I just recently bought this dress and I can't seem to find any cute shoes to go with it! I hate having it hang in my closet because I have no shoes to wear with it.  Any advice would be greatly appreciated!"

What do you think?  What shoes would you wear with the dress?  Leave your suggestions for Kim in the comment section below.

DRESS IT DOWN - Look for low profile shoes in basic materials such as leather, suede, and cotton/linen.  Stay away from bulky shoes, patterns that conflict with the dress, or overly-embellished looks).

DRESS IT UP - Because the style of this dress is relaxed, you don't want to go overboard with the fanciness of your shoe.  I recommend something that is classic and understated or summery and sweet (think wedges).  Make it interesting by choosing a complimentary color (such as the teal green - picking up on one of the subtler colors from the dress).

I really love this pair from Bakers: http://bit.ly/4F9aAu. The girly ruffle will look nice with the more "masculine" plaid. Plus, they're only $26!

I would wear them with the peep toe pumps!

Such a cute dress! Your shoe picks are so perfect! My favorite are the t-strap sandals. Lovely.

I'd go with the bottom ones on the left.. I like that they are red and I think they go pretty well with the dress :)

Great picks!

Personally, for the more casual look I'd go for the Suede T-strap Sandals and dress it up another time with the either of the dressier options. I was gonna say the Crinkle Patent Peep-toe Heels originally, but I'm can so it with the others too and I'm perhaps now leaning more to the Emma Pink Liana Wedges.

Decisions, decisions!

Great dress Kim! Love it!

I'd take it as an opportunity to buy two pairs ;)!: the sandals and the peep toe heels. That way that fabulous dress goes even farther and both of the shoes would go great with capris or jeans. I am good at spending other people's money!

The red sandals are perfect for that!

For me, definitely the t-strap sandals!!! what a cute dress!

They're all so fab, but I'd have to go with the teal peep-toes. Can't resist a heel, even with a super-casual dress.

I absolutely love these picks. I would have a hard time choosing - maybe the bottom right? And the flats?

Personally, I might wear cowboy boots with it - super casual and it's a little westerny looking.

Great picks!! I actually own this dress and wear it a lot with my tan suede ballet flats, or my brown riding boots with tights. It also looks cute with my minnetonka moccasins.

The blue, peep toe ones will contrast excellently with the dress!!

I say none of the above!!! i like these for this dress. i think the seychelles mysterious stranger sandals would be the best fit!http://cgi.ebay.com/NIB-WOMENS-SEYCHELLES-MYSTERIOUS-SANDALS-SZ-8-$80_W0QQitemZ260241437173QQcmdZViewItem

How did Modcloth escape me for so long? Thank you for opening my eyes. :)

I'd have to go for boots--either cowboy boots, or low Doc Martens!

Darling dress! I like all of the shoes with it :)

Kim, I think this dress needs cork! :) Try these:

I like this blue pair by Guess because it kind of looks like denim: http://tinyurl.com/l6qqf8

I also think this blue pair by Union Bay would go great with the plaid: http://tinyurl.com/l6dbkv

Cork heeled huaraches perhaps? http://tinyurl.com/lscuoj

Love that dress, especially with the T-strap sandals. Very pretty!

Adorable dress! I'd wear it with flat sandals, like the red ones shown here.

depends on what she's going to wear along with it.... :) if she will be wearing tights, i would go for booooooooots. like vintage boots: http://www.asos.com/Blowfish/Blowfish-Hobbit-Tie-Dye-Button-Side-Flat-Boot/Prod/pgeproduct.aspx?iid=641035&cid=6455&sh=0&pge=3&pgesize=20&sort=-1&clr=Brown

and if she#s not the boots-kind-of-girl, i'd go for these:http://www.asos.com/Candela-Nyc/Candela-Nyc-Leather-Court-Shoe/Prod/pgeproduct.aspx?iid=648850&cid=5538&sh=0&pge=1&pgesize=20&sort=-1&clr=Brown

:)

Call me boring or lazy but I think I might just wear it with good ol' havainas! :P
June 25, 2009 | Unregistered Commenterbecks
I think the style of the dress will go best with the simple black ballet pumps, or for dressing it up a bit, the wedge heels, The peep toes I find too formal, and the T-strap sandals really need a dress that is floatier ...
