Chic for Cheap: Wedding in the Park
Hello lovelies! Sorry that today's post is a little late. Marichelle and I just finished updating our etsy and big cartel shops with sweet Holiday goods. We're also having a special gift with purchase promo from now until December 1st, so you won't want to miss that.
Anyhow...today's Chic for Cheap look comes at the request of reader Carolyn who will be getting married December 29th in an small ceremony in the park. Here's how she describes her challenge:
"I’m getting married on December 29th. It’s not a normal wedding, there will be just 15 of us (mostly family). We are getting married outside in a park (in southern California, so it won’t be snowing or anything) then going to dinner afterward. I’m trying to find an elegant ensemble that will be appropriate for the wedding but that I can wear later also (it doesn’t necessarily have to be white). I’d like to be warm and my hunny is wearing a gray suit, to help with the image. I love vintage styles and I have a curvy body type (not full-figured, just curvy). If you can provide any help, I’d really really appreciate it because I’m so lost!"
I loved this challenge and wanted to find something glamorous for Carolyn (every bride deserves some glamour on her big day). I immediately fell in love with the beautiful silhouette of the pencil skirt from J.Crew and think it's a great option for curvy girls. Such a great vintage vibe to a skirt like that! I took inspiration from this beautiful floral arrangement when selecting the shoes. They are bright, but I love the addition of a statement piece like that...and my Twitter friend's all unanimously agreed that colored shoes are fab on a bride. The total for this look is a bit more expensive than a regular chic for cheap outfit, but with classic separates that can be worn time and time again (unlike your standard wedding ensemble), the value seems pretty good to me.
I hope you like the look Carolyn. Congratulations and have a wonderful wedding! xo Ez

Good eye Chelsea! I tried and tried to find something different, but in the end I couldn't resist using it again. It's such a lovely piece and a really good value. xo
How do I get those shoes???
Love it! Those shoes just made my day and this outfit makes me want to get married again...
This may be the most perfect outfit I've ever seen. Gorgeous.
The shoes really make the outfit!
I've got one for ya - I'm getting married in early May in Portland, OR in my fiance's front yard, under the (hopefully flowering) pink dogwood tree, with dancing in the driveway after. I've been looking high and low for a brown 40s-swing-dance -style dress that I can wear when we go out dancing during the honeymoon. He's going to wear chocolate brown pants and a cream Tommy Bahama shirt. I'm also rather curvy (short and round: 5'1 and size 14, to be precise). A lot of dresses I've found so far are very unforgiving across the stomach. I'm 39 and don't have patience with the 19-and-thin-as-a-rail-nonsense that passes for models and advertising. I would love some suggestions for where to look.
Okay, definitely loving the shoes, but they don't quite go with my dress :( Do you have other favorite places to get shoes? It's been a while since I've shoe shopped, thanks to working in a manufacturing plant!
This look is perfect. One of my favorites, I must say. The shoes really set it off while still looking classy.
i l-o-v-e the skirt and top! and it sounds like a wonderful little wedding -- congrats!
LOVE this one! Seriously ... I'm drooling ;)
Oh wow - perfection! lucky bride : ) hope she goes with this, top to toes!
Congrats to the lovely bride- if she wears this, she's gonna be a knock-out.
Also, Ez, should I ever become wonderfully rich, I'll pay you well to be my personal stylist :D
Are the heels by Pink Studio? They make the cutest shoes- very feminine and quirky.
love it! Those shoes are *amazing* I must have them :D But the entire outfit is *so* darling!! Fab job!
This is absolute perfection! So beautiful and so perfect....I ADORE the shoes...I love that splash of color and all the of the sparkle. PER. FECT. :)
