In My Studio: Party Invitation Design Process

A dear friend of mine asked if I'd be interested in designing the invites for her daughter's 2nd birthday / pool party. What a fun assignment! So I thought that today I'd share a little sneak peek with you of the behind the scenes process that's been underway here in my studio.

Step 1: My process first starts with sketching out some rough ideas.

Step 2: When I figure out which direction I like best, I finalize the design and scan it into my computer.

Step 4: Using watercolor, colored pencils, and acrylic paint I create textures to be scanned into my computer.

Step 5: Now the fun continues as I begin playing around with all the various design elements in Photoshop.

The design isn't finished yet, but I'm pretty happy with the direction it's going so far (hooray). Stay tuned for the final design...hopefully I'll be able to share that with you all sometime next week.

Have an awesome weekend everyone. I'll be away on Monday for the Memorial Day holiday (here in the US), so I'll see you on Tuesday! xo Ez

Photo Friday: Feeling Rosy

Hi friends! Today I thought I'd share a few pretty shots that I took on my California trip last week. On Mother's Day we were wandering around my sister's college campus and I immediately became a bit obsessed with the flowers that were blooming everywhere.

The intoxicating fragrance filling the air, made the idea of climbing into a rose and making myself cozy amongst it's petals seem almost possible. Alas, I realized that I am not the size of a ladybug, so I had to settle for second-best and tried to capture that feeling with my camera instead. Le sigh! xo Ez

In My Studio: Organizing Wrapping Paper

I spotted this awesome Galvanized Wire Basket at Target the other day and decided that even though I didn't immediately know what I needed it for, I just had to have it anyhow. Once I brought it home, I quickly decided that it would be put to use as storage for my many rolls of wrapping paper. I was happily surprised by how many fit inside it too!

This is what my wrapping paper storage looked like previously (eek). Since it was in the back corner of my studio closet I always had a really hard time getting the specific paper I wanted, and things got messy...and stayed messy. So hooray for this new storage solution (I'll be putting the holiday wrapping paper away in the garage, and then the whole backside of my closet will be available space again—yay). As some of you suggested on Instagram when I was trying to convince myself to buy the basket, it really can be used for so many things...from storing extra towels or throw blankets, to holding magazines and book, etc. So whether I keep my rolls of paper in it indefinitely or for just a short while, I'm really happy with my basket and all it's organizational potential! xo Ez

One Good Thing: Geometric Print Bags

Over the past few years I've had the good fortune to own (and also gift to friends) a couple Madebyhank bags. The craftsmanship in each piece that Katie hand-makes is wonderful! I might have even swooned a little when I saw her latest Graphic Print Pouch Bags pop up on Instagram recently. Can you believe they start at only $20! Awesomeness! Skip on over to the Madebyhank shop to see even more of Katie's handcrafted bags. xo Ez

Color Inspiration Daily: 05. 24. 12

I snapped this photo with my phone while in California last week, and Mo Funk (on instagram) commented to suggest that I create a color palette post using it as my inspiration. After taking a second look last night I had to agree. Those corally color really are amazing, aren't they?! xo Ez
