Weekend Link Love: 04. 10. 09

{photo by me}

Hello lovelies!  The weekend is finally here and I couldn't be more thrilled!  Do you have any big plans?  I've been working hard on a few projects that I can't wait to share with you soon (not yet though)... so I'll probably continue to put some time into those over the next couple of days.

Before I get to my link love for the weekend I want to apologize for not following through with a tutorial for you all like I said I would.  The week really got away from me and bad weather complicated things (I couldn't take any decent photos of the project).  Hopefully I'll have it ready for you soon.  Thanks for your patience.

A Virtual Room Makeover

A few weeks ago Rachel wrote in asking if I could offer some suggestions for the decor in her bedroom.  I don't consider myself an expert by any means (especially not where home decor is concerned), but I was game to give her challenge a try.  First, here's what Rachel had to say about her space:

"I have a HUGE wall in my room- it is awkward and completely blank.  Since the room is so big, and the ceilings go from 9 feet to 15 feet, I am afraid to overwhelm it with color, but I can't stand seeing the blank wall anymore. I barely have anything on the walls really. I do plan on adding a headboard. Possibly with a damask pattern on it.  I am extremely eclectic. My style has been described by people (and decor quizzes) as vintage modern, french eclectic, and mid-century.
I like some florals and patchwork, damask and swirls, pink, brown, black, blue and orange are my faves. I like it when things don't match.  I'm simply having a hard time arranging everything so it sort of "comes together" you know? I want a cohesive look, not like a crazy lady who had a yard sale explode all over the place."

 To begin with, I adore the high ceilings in Rachel's room, but I can see how they would be overwhelming.  Headboards are fabulous, but I felt as though one could get lost against such a tall wall.  So instead, I opted to "paint" the walls a soft pink color and then "hang" floor to ceiling curtain panels that flank the bed but still allow light in through the windows.  I "hung" a pretty mirror high above the bed to cover the vent and to compliment the little mirror that Rachel already has.  I then added some throw pillows in complimentary colors but with different patterns and textures to create interest.  I think that this could definitely be built upon...maybe throw in some cute patchwork pillows or drape a great throw across the foot of the bed.  Simple but effective.  Lastly I chose a pretty bedside lamp in a beautiful blue that plays nicely off the other colors in the room, and then placed a ladder rack on the other side of the bed.  Perfect for hanging magazines or an extra blanket or two... and it draws the eye upward in a nice way.  As a finishing touch I'd love to see some photos and art prints (such as work by Caitlin Shearer) hung on the blank wall to the left of the bed.

I hope this gives you some ideas for what you want to do in your space Rachel!  Best of luck to you, and have fun! xox Ez

P.S. I wanted to let you all know that I won't be back in again until later today.  My daughter has a special performance at her school that I will be helping her with.  See you all soon.  xo
