California...Here We Come!

Happy Monday friends! Did you read the title above?! Well today I am delighted to share some big news with you that I've been trying to keep under wraps for a while now....My daughter and I are moving back to California!!! We are triple cartwheel, quadruple back-handspring, caffeine-fueled jazz hands excited!

Until recently, it was only in our wildest dreams that we imagined ourselves back in the place we feel most at home. But now in just a few short weeks we will be stuffing all our worldly possessions into our car and a moving truck, and making our way to the West Coast! We can't wait to get settled back into life on the Central Coast. It's going to be wonderful!

As you can imagine, our house is currently in a state of craziness that is only made livable because of the excitement that motivates us to ignore the boxes closing in around us. I will be doing my best to continue to post here daily, but I hope you'll forgive me if I miss a day (or a few) in there. I promise I'll make your patience worth it! If you're missing a daily update, or are curious what a person looks like wading through a sea of half-packed boxes, please come on over and say "hi" via my Instagram. I tend to keep up with it pretty regularly. Oh...and I'm going to need all the helpful packing, cleaning (I need to get this place spotless), and sanity-saving tips you are able to share! We'll get through this together! xox Ez

Congratulations on the big move! So happy to hear that you are heading to the place that feels like home to you! It's such a great feeling.

And a moving tip for you: Don't postpone packing! I was packing the night before (and the following morning) when the movers were scheduled to come and get everything. That just added to the stress of moving. Packing isn't all that fun, but make sure to give yourself enough time. :)

Yeehaw! Congrats on the big move and welcome back to California!

Here are my tips:
Get way more boxes than you think you need.
Keep a box of things/tools like scissors, screwdrivers, hammer, measuring tape, paper towels, hand soap, bandaids, etc, handy and separate from the rest of the stuff.
That stretchy plastic furniture wrap is very handy. I used it to strap oddly shaped things like loose shelf boards, and bed slats together so they're not just floating around.

Good luck and don't stress too much! :)

MAJOR CONGRATS!! I'll have to make a trip up the CA coast to meet you (finally)! :) <3

California sounds great after I've spent the past 3 days stranded in four feet of snow...

You BRAVE BEAUTIFUL woman! I am so happy for you EZ. I am a single mom who had to make a number of moves to find peace and calm for me and my kid so I applaud you! I know (from your blogs) it's been rough these past couple of years moving to and fro. I admire your willingness to seek out your comfort, your home and your peace. I wish you and your little one all the blessings in the world. Enjoy the road trip!!!

Oh I almost forgot the TIPS:
Pack a week's worth of clothes and essentials separate form the boxes.

Pack all of your bathroom items separately and put that box at the top of the pile. When I move the first room that gets done is the bathroom. It's so nice to have a clean cozy bathroom where you can escape and take a bath when you're tired of unpacking or tired from thinking about unpacking (whatever same thing LOL)

Pack your computer lovelies separately so that you can set up your desk and get back blogging PRETTINESS for us (LOL) right away mmmK

Of course, pack and label each box and it's contents so then you can decide what to tackle when you arrive.

This is important --> ASK FOR HELP. Lean on your tribe, ego aside. They love you and will be there waiting for you in California when you arrive.

***throwing fairy dust*** Enjoy and Congrats.

Where in Central CA will you be? I'm from Vacaville but I live in LA now. Good luck with the move!

Congrats!! California will be very lucky to have you!

February 11, 2013 | Unregistered CommenterMere @NotmerelyLiving

Oh I'm SO happy for you guys! I hope that this move brings a new refreshing adventure for the both of you and that it brings a lot of peace to you both because of your daughters experience with bullying. All my best wishes that she feels set free in a new space <3
And my advice for packing is label everything like CRAZY. its inevitable that you will end up throwing stuff in boxes at the last minute, but remember to write down seriously EVERYTHING that you put in each box on the outside. Because when you are unpacking, you'll always be thinking, oh crap, where did I throw that one little thing... My packing boxes look like paragraphs of writing on the outside, but it is SO helpful!
