In Reluctant Praise of Pink

In the past, if you'd asked me pointblank if I like the color pink I'd probably have immediately said "no" and make a face like this. But over the course of my blogging journey I've noticed that I pink has snuck up on me a lot more than once and made me fancy it (even if a little reluctantly so—silly, I know). So here are a few pink-hued pretties that I admit that I'm loving right now. Are you a reluctant lover of pink (or any other color) too?

I've always been on team pink but now that I'm getting into the design world, I have myself completely convinced there are some things you just can't do without the color pink (silly, right?). I'm so thrilled you're coming over to our side...even if a bit reluctantly:)

I like pink, but I dislike its use to market to women. I'd say, food-wise, pink is something I'll always go for, no matter what flavor it symbolizes (except for bubble gum).

pretty pretty pretty!

I have always loved pink, but am new to loving blue. For many years, I steered clear of anything blue, and HATED navy. Maybe it was because blue seems to be everyone's favorite color and I felt it was kindof cliche'. But then I fell in love with turquoise, my gateway blue; and now I love many shades of blue and am collecting a lot of navy in my wardrobe. I guess I grew into blue.

I know exactly what you mean about the surprise love of pink! I didn't pay much attention to it as a colour until about two years ago when I got engaged and discovered the world of weddings blogs - all of sudden I found myself unequivocally attracted to the colour and even planned my wedding around soft pink hues. I think in the world of blogging pink is used so very well in many beautifully designed blogs that it's hard not to like it. These days one of my favourite things is the colours on my clothes horse when I do a delicates wash, it's an array of deep to soft pink PJs, socks, tshirts and undies with the odd dash of pastel green thrown in, it just makes my colourloving heart so happy to hang it all up to dry! It's funny, I know, to be made so happy by something as simple as a colour but the heart cannot help itself when it comes to things it loves :) Good luck exploring pink, you have a gorgeous collection of stuff here - I'm very drawn to the pink nail varnish, must pick up some similar shades!

I've always liked soft pink. I'm a fan of muted tones so the color I have been most surprised and reluctant to love is coral. A few years ago I saw a picture of a desk in Martha Stewart that was painted the brightest, glossiest shade of coral. I haven't yet worked up the nerve to do something similar in my own home but I love the color almost without exception.

I loved reading your comments guys...and glad to know that I'm not the only reluctant pink-lover out there.
@Eadaoin - You are a girl after my own heart! Finding pretty colors in mundane and unexpected places is something that delights me all the time. Hooray for pretty laundry...it certainly makes the household chores a lot more enjoyable, right?!
@Jenni - Even though pink itself has been creeping up on me slowly, coral is one shade that I've always loved. So bright and cheery!
@Fran - Turquoise, aqua, and teal are my most favorite colors of all. I'm glad you've come around. ;-)

I'm not a huge fan of pink either but these are good enough to eat! And speaking of "good enough to eat" OMG that blog -- YUMMY!!!

Not a huge fan of pink, but like you it is growing on me too. I have a twin sister...she was pink, I was blue...she was all feminine, me not so much. I grew up the tom boy and so never ever would like pink. Wasn't until I became older did I decide I actually liked it. Still feels weird decorating with it tho as I lived through the nineties faze and still see pink counter tops at my friends houses...eek.I do love pink finger nail polish...maybe even a throw pillow on my sofa. Don't think I would ever paint a room pink or have a whole sofa that color..

How funny--I've always felt that pink was too "girly" and childish, but since picking up a new Filofax Mini in textured pink leather (it was 75% off; how could I refuse?) earlier this week, I'm feeling the pink creeping into my life!

I'm not a huge pink lover, but every now and then I find myself warming to it. Love the look of that ice-cream too!

I lurv me some pink!

I can totally relate. Pink was not the color one would find in anything I own - much less Red. But now a days, I can be found writing in pink ink or wearing a pink blouse ...

I have never considered myself a pink person either, but I too have found myself drawn to certain shades of it recently.

June 10, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterGaelan @ Uschi and Kay

I know exactly what you mean, I was never a big fan of pink until I started my job, which is designing greeting cards. I inevitably had to start using pink, and then when I saw how much it could add to a design (even non-feminine designs) I started to love it. There are so many tones of pink and I feel they are so flexible and serve different purposes. I have always been a fan of wearing coral (looks great with a tan!) , but now I love the other shades too :)

June 10, 2011 | Unregistered Commenterrachael

Aww, there's a special place in my heart for pink. I look terrible in most shades, but I love that coral color- it's so summery!

On another note, I have that Handmade Weddings book and it has a million good ideas in it! :)

Ah ha ha ha! Love the link to the "ick face." I completely understand where you're coming from. I too used to abhor pink, but now I find it fetching.

I'm a red girl for sure. I've never really warmed to pink, though I did try it out on my lips this year (then went right back to red). :)

June 10, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterDawn

I love pink! It's such an uplifting color to me.

My reluctant color is orange. I have a really hard time with orange for some reason...weird, I know.

June 11, 2011 | Unregistered Commentererin lang norris

I have the same feelings about pink, but I'm warming up to less girly pinks lately!

June 11, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterTang

I've always disliked the colour pink since I was a kid - I didn't like 'girly' things and I hate the way women's tools etc are always marketed in bubblegum shades. However, looking through my Pinterest boards, I've noticed a lot of pink in softer and paler tones, so I must be subconsciously drawn to it in some way :)

I´m never going to get tired of telling you how perfect your blog looks! Sorry if I bore you with all my comments, but I just can´t help it. One can really see the dedication you put in it, all the details, the hard work, the good content... Creature comforts is definitely one of my favourite blogs!
