Google Art Project

By now you might have already heard the buzz circulating around the web over the latest release (actually just released today) from Google - Google Art Project. With Google Art Project you can virtually visit a selection of some of the world's finest museums and explore a range of their noteworthy art pieces.

The part I love most is how you can zoom in and see each work in such detail that every brushstroke and crack of aged paint is visible. What a wonderful way to admire the small details that make the big picture so magnificent. Have you tried it out yet? Pop on over and start exploring now.

Thanks for sharing the news on Google Art Project! I'm very excited to go check it out! I totally understand your appreciation for the detail in works of art. During my semester's study abroad in Austria, I hopped on over to Musee d'Orsay and was able to see up close one of my favorite pieces: Van Gogh's "Bedroom in Arles." What was amazing to me was that until that moment, I'd never known the detail and shading in the pillows was due to the thick brush strokes of oil paint! I was amazed... because looking at the painting in a book, one would swear that Van Gogh added a second color to give depth to the pillows! Might seem a little silly that I took such note of such a minor detail, but I was enthralled by the technique he used.

Thanks for the tip Ez! Despite my many hours logged trawling the internet (*ahem*), I wasn't aware of the Google Art Project. Nice work Google! The zoom in feature looks so wonderful - I am one of those people who get asked to stand back from the art in the gallery; when I saw one of Monet's Water Lily's at the National Gallery in Canberra, I unknowingly set off the sensor alarm by stepping too close!

I hadn't heard of it, thanks for sharing! It sounds really interesting, because you can't really see the details like brush strokes in a small photo.
