Dreaming of Spring

We woke up to rain this morning and even though it's almost 9:00 am it is dark as night inside my house (outside it is almost as bad).  Thankfully I have my computer as a cheerful refuge from the gloom outside, as well as some pretty photos I took of the tulips and daffodils I treated myself to this past weekend.  When I'm feel especially uninspired or unmotivated to take care of much needed housework I like to pick up a bunch or two of affordable blooms at Trader Joe's (or pick something from outside if it is available) and place simple little arrangements around my house.  Nothing fancy...just flowers inside whatever glasses or jars I have laying around.  To me there is nothing quite like fresh cut flowers to make even the drabbest day feel manageable and the most mundane chores doable.

Do you have any little tricks or small pleasures that help perk you up when you're having a less than cheery day?  xo Ez

I too love to buy fresh flowers (especially tulips) when I need a little pick me up! Also, completing a small project like crocheting a granny square, embroidering a little pretty, or completing some quilting always helps me!

Ez - I do exactly what you described. I'm often found pouring over the arrangements at TJ's, splitting them up in my mind before I bring a bouquet or two home. I find Costco is another affordable source, and one bouquet can fill a household with blooms!

I'm also a fan of bright cheery blooms, but I also take refuge in a scalding hot of tea in my favorite mug, I bought mine from a craft show in Half Moon Bay, but the gal sells on etsy, her stuff is *super* cheerful! http://www.etsy.com/shop/catherinereece?section_id=5950376 & this is the mug I have: http://www.flickr.com/photos/frenchtoastcake/4342405330/ I think it's spring-y & perfect because of the little birds, they always make me smile!

I had to go to hospital - for some blood tests - today, under the rain. on the way back, I thought I could hop onto another bus and pay china town a visit.

the lovely colour, bubble teas, and dumplings made my day a bit more lovely.

hope you have a lovely day as well despite the rain.

PS. lovelove your new blog Ez.

Don't feel like you have to limit your inspirational clippings to just flowers. I love arrangements of just green leaves--large branches placed in vintagey mossy urns. Clippings of pink branches in the spring or red or orange leaves in the fall is lovely, too.

i love flowers, too. but when it's cold and yucky outside, i find that a nice hot cup of tea in a great mug works wonders!

I think of flowers as a kind of therapy for me...and splurge on them even when i should be buying groceries instead. something about the freshness and color really uplifts my mood. i've also turned to extra big mugs of hot chocolate covered in inches of whipped cream when its an especially grey and gloomy day..... :)

I'm a rather depressing person so I usually go right into the depths and don't really
have much to cheer me up >.>

I'm sorry this isn't helping :S
