Giveaway Time - Drawing Nature: A Journal by Jill Bliss

Hello lovely friends! It's been quite a long while since I last hosted a giveaway, so when the awesome folks at Chronicle Books asked if I'd like to be part of a blogger book tour and give a copy of Drawing Nature to one of you lucky ducks...I couldn't say yes fast enough. I also received my own copy to check out ahead of time, and I have to tell you that whoever wins this beautiful book is truly in for a treat! Are you excited, or what?!!

Portland-based artist Jill Bliss has been tantalizing us with her exquisite renderings of the natural world for years...and now she finally shows us how it's done in this wonderful hands-on journal. But this isn't a book simply for the artistically gifted...the beauty of this art journal is how Jill provides easy to follow guidance that is meant for all (artists and artistically-challenged alike). I especially appreciate how the emphasis of this journal is all about discovering who you are artistically through the practice of drawing simple natural forms and patterns (no right or wrongs ways to go about it). But perhaps my most favorite touch of all might be the little motivational captions and inspirational prompts written at the bottom of each journal page...thoughts to inspire and keep you going (and we all need those from time to time, don't we). All in all, Drawing Nature: A Journal is a beautiful book for anyone who loves to draw and/or journal (plus it looks great sitting out on your desk)...and it would make the perfect gift (I'm planning to share the copy I received with my little sister).

Take a little peek at this short video interview with Jill Bliss for a more in-depth look at the book and what it's all about. If you'd like you can purchase your own copy (or one for a friend) at Chronicle Books, Amazon, or Barnes & Noble.

What an great idea for a book. I am not much of a drawer so this book would be helpful. That being said, I think I would give it as a gift to my friend Siobhan who is very artistic and enjoys nature.
Thanks,
Stacey

I will be living in the Custer State Park for 3 months in the summer while i work at the Black Hills Playhouse in South Dakota. It is one of my little dreams come true because it is such a beautiful nature sanctuary! So this guided journal will be perfect!! I love drawing nature but always feel inadequate... and this time i will have some time to do it too!!! Thanks for this great giveaway!

This looks like a beautiful journal. I've been really focusing on nature lately and incorporating it into the artwork that I display in my home (especially after the long and white Canadian winter - it is still white and brown outside here!). This would be such a breath of fresh air indeed!

This would be a sweet gift for my grandfather. He likes art and does sketches on napkins and such at his kitchen table, but this book would give him something different to try. I'm also into art and love to draw and paint, but I think my grandfather would appreciate a simple little gift like this.
Thanks for the video, too.

What a great journal! I would like to win it because now that my children are four and two I'm hoping to have slightly more time to get back into drawing and painting :)

Oh, what a splendid idea for a book. If I won this book, I would give it to my dear mother-in-law for Mother's Day. She lives by Lake Michigan and spends a great deal of time wandering the shore and surrounding woods with her big, galumphing dog. She is also an inspiring poet and artist. What a delightful gift this little nature journal would be - allowing her to combine art with nature. xo, Tracy

I am dying to get my hands on this book - I hate blank pages. I love the fact that the sketchbook has little drawings already included and because of my aversion to the blank page, I hope this book motivates me to sketch more.

Oh, I saw this book on Chronicle's blog and was smitten! I'm trying to do one drawing a day--some days are MUCH better than others--and I'd love to get some wisdom from this book! Thanks for the giveaway!

I loved drawing as a kid and have been thinking about ways to get back into it as an adult, I'd love to use this journal as a jumping off point (bonus - I think I'll pick up a copy for my 11 year old sister so we could compare notes/drawings)

This would be just the thing to get me out and drawing in Central Park. I just love Jill's work.

I would love to make this a gift to my sweet daughter. As an architect she works on the computer 90% of the time. I can see her enjoying sketching in a lovely book as she and her husband plan new landscape ideas for their home.

What a simple but beautiful concept. As someone who's always thought she had no drawing ability but recently discovered it's actually enjoyable, I would really love something like this. Most drawing / art books are somewhat intimidating to new artists so I really appreciate the humility of this book :) Thanks for the great giveaway!

April 19, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterRachel H.

What a lovely book! I would probably hold on to this book if I won it. I just started to explore the world of drawing and watercolor painting, and would love some extra tips on technique. Thanks for a great giveaway! :)

I'd love this book, it would be perfect for the watercolor journal I started!

April 19, 2011 | Unregistered Commenterjessicajane

I'd like this book because I love drawing and would like to have a book that guides me to learn some new techniques.
